Install

Pick the file for your system on the beta page. There is no account, and the builds are not code signed, so each system warns you once.

Windows. Run FundaCAD-windows-x64-setup.exe, or the portable .exe if you would rather not install. When Windows protects your PC, click More info, then Run anyway.

macOS. Open FundaCAD-macos-arm64.dmg and drag the app into Applications. If macOS says it is damaged, run this once in Terminal.

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/FundaCAD.app

Linux. The Flatpak is the safest choice. On Ubuntu, run sudo apt install flatpak first. The bundle names Flathub for the GNOME runtime it needs, so Flatpak offers to add it.

flatpak install --user ./FundaCAD-linux-x86_64.flatpak
flatpak run dev.fundacad.app

On Ubuntu 22.04 or Debian 12 and newer you can use sudo apt install ./FundaCAD-linux-x86_64.deb instead, and on Fedora sudo dnf install ./FundaCAD-linux-x86_64.rpm. The AppImage runs without installing, it needs WebKitGTK 4.1 from your system.

chmod +x FundaCAD-linux-x86_64.AppImage
./FundaCAD-linux-x86_64.AppImage

The Flatpak, the .deb and the .rpm add FundaCAD to the app menu, and a double click on a .funda or .fundab file opens it there.

To remove FundaCAD, run flatpak uninstall dev.fundacad.app, sudo apt remove funda-cad or sudo dnf remove funda-cad, or delete the AppImage.

Beta or development build

The beta is the one for most people. It is somewhat stable, because a change only reaches it once it has passed every test.

The development build has every change the day it lands. Take it if you want the newest features and can live with a build that is sometimes broken. The file names are the same on both pages.

A beta install updates itself to the next beta, and a development install to the next development build. When one is out, a message at the bottom of the window says so, and its Restart & update installs it. It asks you to save unsaved changes first, and waits until an open sketch is finished. To switch, install the file from the other page. If the other build has a lower version number, you may need to uninstall first.

On Linux only the AppImage updates itself. The Flatpak, the .deb and the .rpm stay on the build you installed until you install the newer file over it the same way, with flatpak install --user --reinstall ./FundaCAD-linux-x86_64.flatpak, sudo apt install ./FundaCAD-linux-x86_64.deb or sudo dnf install ./FundaCAD-linux-x86_64.rpm.

If FundaCAD opens blank

When two starts in a row do not get as far as showing the window's contents, the next start is in safe mode. Plugins, your saved preferences and the offer to recover unsaved work are off for that session, and on Linux the WebKit compositing that a blank window most often comes from is off too. Nothing saved is changed, and preferences you change in safe mode are forgotten when it closes. A banner at the top says why the app is in safe mode. Click Restart normally to leave it.

You can also ask for safe mode yourself, by starting FundaCAD with --safe-mode (flatpak run dev.fundacad.app --safe-mode for the Flatpak) or with FUNDACAD_SAFE_MODE=1 set. Restart normally drops the switch for that restart, but a launcher or shell profile that sets it has to be changed by hand.

A settings file that cannot be read is renamed to <name>.bad-<time> in the app data folder (%APPDATA%\dev.fundacad.app on Windows, ~/Library/Application Support/dev.fundacad.app on macOS, ~/.local/share/dev.fundacad.app on Linux, ~/.var/app/dev.fundacad.app/data/dev.fundacad.app for the Flatpak) and the app starts without it. Attach that file when you report the problem.

FundaCAD writes its log to fundacad.log in its log folder: %LOCALAPPDATA%\dev.fundacad.app\logs on Windows, ~/Library/Logs/dev.fundacad.app on macOS, ~/.local/share/dev.fundacad.app/logs on Linux and ~/.var/app/dev.fundacad.app/data/dev.fundacad.app/logs for the Flatpak. Each start is added to the end. A log past 4 MB moves to fundacad.1.log and the one before it to fundacad.2.log, so the folder holds three at most. Report a problem, in the Help menu or the bug button at the bottom right, attaches the end of the log to its report, with user names hidden, unless you untick it. Started from a terminal, FundaCAD logs to the terminal instead, and a report from that run carries no log.
