Let an assistant guide you

Ask an assistant to show you how to do something, such as "show me how to round the top edges". It walks you through it in your own window, one step at a time, instead of doing it for you.

  1. A pulsing ring marks the button or field to use, or an outline marks the part of the model. A short caption beside it says what to do.
  2. Do the step yourself.
  3. The assistant sees when you have started the tool, picked the edge or typed the value, and moves on to the next step.

If the button is folded away, for example Fillet inside Modify, the ring sits on Modify and the caption says to open it first. Then the ring moves to Fillet.

  1. Next tells the assistant you are done with this step, when it waits for you rather than for something in the model.
  2. Stop takes the ring and caption away at once and tells the assistant you stopped. It does not undo anything you did.

What it needs

The guide shows only while Live document shares your document, read only or with edits allowed (Share your document). An app or assistant connection too old for it says so rather than showing nothing.

What it never does

The steps never change your document. Clean view does not hide them, and they are never part of a picture you save.

With Animations off in Preferences, Accessibility, or reduced motion set on your system, the ring stays still.
