Joint and mechanism

Joint fits one body against another, and Mechanism builds a linkage of moving parts. Both are under Modify on the rail in the Move group.

Joint

  1. Click Joint, then click a face on the body that moves.
  2. Click the face on another body that it mates to.

Both faces are remembered, so changing either part carries the joined body along. Double-click the joint in the history to place it: the arrow slides the body, the dial turns it, and either can be typed. Enter applies both.

Mechanism

  1. Click Mechanism, then click the ground body, the one that holds still.
  2. Choose the first joint's kind: Revolute (pin), Slider or Rigid.
  3. Click a face or edge on the part that moves, then one on the part it joins.
  4. Add more joints the same way, then choose Done.
  5. Choose the joint the drive moves, or None to close it as modelled.

Double-click the mechanism in the history to drive it. Drag the arrow or the dial, or type the value, and the linkage follows.
